Wonderland
Hakuba Valley, the host of the 1998 Winter Olympics and FIS World Cup Events, is fast becoming a mecca for skiers and alpinists searching for amazing powder, spectacular scenery and ancient and exotic culture. Comprising 12 resorts spanning the valley, multiple snow parks, long groomed pistes and amazing backcountry, Hakuba has something for every snow enthusiast. With this multitude of ski resorts from which to choose, you will find that during the week the slopes are relatively empty and that lift lines are unheard of. There are endless fresh tracks and you will never be short of new areas to explore. There are more than 200 runs, 139 lifts, vertical drops of over 1,000 m and a top elevation of 1,831 m providing the most variety and excitement of any ski resort in Japan. Due to its abundant snowfalls and pristine conditions, Hakuba Japan offers fantastic dry powder and more blue sky days than any other Japanese ski resort.
Easy to get to with direct flights from most overseas destinations to Tokyo then either coach transfer or experience the comfort and speed of a Shinkansen (Bullet) train ride to deliver you to the Hakuba Valley in under 3 hours so you can begin your winter wonderland adventure. When you’re not enjoying the wonderful winter wonderland on board, ski, snow mobile, or snowshoes, you can explore the historical and culturally significant village. Ancient Shinto shrines are scattered throughout the village or an easy day trip will allow you to experience a 240-year-old sake brewery, ancient Buddhist temple or catch snow monkeys frolicking in hot springs. Within Hakuba itself you can try your hand at soba noodle making, dress up in kimono and participate in a Japanese tea ceremony. After a big day on the slopes you should indulge in the glorious natural hot spring baths before heading out to enjoy the delicious local produce in small home-style restaurants, traditional Japanese Izakaya or cutting edge 5 star resorts.
